Technische Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe
Technische Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe (TH OWL) University of Applied Science and Arts offers a variety of degrees ranging from design, technology, economics, and environmental studies. The Detmold School of Architecture and Interior Architecture benefits from a 125-year-old design tradition. Through the lens of the newly-established Institute for Design Strategies (IDS), and its thematic clusters Regenerative Design, Human Centered Design, and Data Driven Design, synergies among scales within urban environments and technological developments for sustainable strategies are being transmitted to the academic programs and to the cooperation with industry partners.
The specialization in Façade Design, within the Master of Integrated Design (MID) aims to provide guidance to develop scientific and professional skills to solve technical challenges in practice, research and development of façade projects, with a foundation on building physics and sustainability, supported by computational design tools to strengthen efficient processes.
Current façade research at TH OWL focuses on studying the relationship between façades and climate change, renewable energies, patrimonial heritage, urban soundscape, vertical greening systems, digital fabrication, recycling and overall environmental quality inside and outside of buildings.
