JFDE – Special Issue Multifunctional Façades for Renovation through Industrialization
This Special Issue brings together findings from projects funded by the EU H2020 initiative, focusing on the creation of versatile envelope solutions for extensively renovating buildings. These projects share a unified goal of designing and showcasing smart components that can easily plug into a prefabricated envelope system. These components encompass insulation materials, heating and cooling elements, ventilation systems, smart windows, energy production technologies, solar harvesting devices, and storage units, along with the essential connecting and control components. The collective emphasis is on demonstrating that plug-and-build solutions are well-suited for large-scale production.
