FASSADE 2024 – Circular!

FASSADE 2024, scheduled for November 6, 2024, at the Lucerne Culture and Convention Centre (KKL), will focus on the integration of circular economy principles in the building construction industry, with a particular emphasis on building envelopes and facades.

This international conference is organised by the Lucerne School of Engineering and Architecture in collaboration with the Competence Centre for Building Envelope and Civil Engineering, the Swiss Window and Facade Centre, and the European Facade Network.

The event features a comprehensive program centered on the implementation of the circular economy in both new building constructions and facade renovations, with a special focus on the role of digital tools such as artificial intelligence.

Renowned engineers, architects, and researchers will present recent projects, trends, developments, and technologies during the three main sessions of the event, which are structured as follows: Case Study and Design, Execution, and Research and Innovation.

Notably, the final session will include contributions from EFN members:

  • Susanne Gosztonyi from HSLU T&A, who will discuss the theme “Building without Material.”
  • Thaleia Konstantinou from TU Delft, who will give a talk entitled “Building Components Design as an Enabler for a Circular Built Environment.”
  • Miren Juaristi from Eurac Research, who will present “Facade Circular Lab: Experiencing Facade Disassembling to Close the Loop.”
  • Ornella Iuorio from Politecnico di Milano, who will delve into “Deconstruction and Reusing Lightweight Façade Systems: Possibilities, Carbon Impacts, and Challenges.”

This conference offers a unique opportunity to engage with leading experts and explore how the circular economy can be effectively applied to both new and renovated façades.
